Los Angeles is jam-packed with vegan options where restaurants serving dishes from around the world are scattered throughout the city. From Dimsum to Burgers to Vegan Night Markets, you’ll find what you’re looking for on this vegan food tour. Join me Rated V, where I share the ultimate guide of where to eat vegan food in LA
Chaumont Vegan
145 S Beverly Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90212
2930 Colorado Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90404
The foodie adventure begins at a Beverly Hills French vegan bakery called Chaumont where you’ll discover both savory and sweet pastry options. A must-order on their menu are any one of their croissants—because it’s not every day you come across a vegan croissant that takes your taste buds all the way to the streets of Paris. Plus, the presentation of these pastries at this bakery speaks for itself.
For a savory bite, try the Zaatar croissant or the ham and cheese croissant. For something sweet, order the rosewater croissant or the chocolate-filled flaky thin pastry. There are no wrong answers here.
In between stops to let your tummy settle, head over to Rodeo Drive and check out the little boutiques on this cute street.
Nic’s on Beverly
8265 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048
Next up, we have Nic’s on Beverly. They’re mainly known for their wood-fired Detroit-style pizza which is traditionally a saucy square pizza with a thick crispy crust and cheese. At Nic’s on Beverly they nailed the vegan version with its rich flavor and fluffy, oily crust. It’s like a pillow in your mouth!
Make sure to check out the pink wall on Melrose on your way to the next foodie destination—thousands are spent each year to upkeep this wall.
Pura Vita
8274 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046
In West Hollywood, or Redondo Beach, try Pura Vita, a vegan Italian restaurant. If you miss creamy, dairy-filled pasta, this spot should be on your list. They also have something called Pizza Fritti which is like a calzone cone stuffed with pizza ingredients.
Margos
1534 Montana Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90403
For a vegan brunch by the beach, head over to Margo’s in Santa Monica. After the pandemic they fully converted to a completely plant-based menu. Here you can enjoy breakfast pizza, one of the best frittatas and even brioche French toast that tastes like churros!
Iron TeaPot Dim Sum
10306 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90034
If you love dim sum then a must visit is Iron Tea Pot in Culver city, they have classics such as shumai, xio long bao, lor mai gai and more all vegan!! Such a great experience that I recommend vegan Cantonese style food.
Mama’s Tamales
2124 7th St, Los Angeles, CA 90057
In the Pico Union neighborhood in central L.A., is Mama’s Tamales, a Salvadoran joint with an entire vegan menu that opened up 30 years ago. I grew up eating this food so it reminds me of home.
I ordered pasteles which are like empanadas but made with corn flour, stuffed with veggies and potatoes and then fried. Pupusas are another menu item I had to try. The bean and cheese tasted better than the plain cheese with loroco but the “cheese” got lost in the bean flavor so I wish it had more vegan “cheese.” The loroco wasn’t chopped up finely enough and there was wayyy too much of it. Personally they weren’t my favorite pupusas as I make them often at home so if you’ve never had pupusas before, they’re not a bad attempt, however, if you’ve had many in your life, I feel like there are better. Ordering tamales here is a must at Mama’s Tamales, and the red tamal with jackfruit had moist masa but the brine flavor did come through a bit on the jackfruit. Otherwise it wasn’t bad.
Monty’s Good Burger
Another comfort food joint serving up vegan “double double” burgers is Monty’s Good Burger which has multiple locations throughout the city. They even serve delicious vegan shakes to top off your meal. And if you’re craving animal style fries you gotta try the 50/50 max which combines vegan fries and tots with vegan cheese and special sauce.
Hart House
Near LAX - Multiple Locations
8901 S Sepulveda Blvd, Westchester, CA 90045
Kevin Hart has started a chain of vegan burgers and now there’s one only 8 min away from LAX! Before living in LA I used to love going to In n Out after landing to get my double double fix but now I can go to Hart House. Honestly though, my favorite is the #6 Spicy Chicken Deluxe. It tastes amazing, the tots and fries are great and they also have vegan milkshakes and make their own low sugar sodas.
Vegan Tacos
Have you been to LA if you don’t eat tacos? The answer is no! Make sure to check out this video for the best vegan tacos in the LA area, they include Cena Vegan, Gardunos Taco King, Hijo de su Madre and El Cocinero. Xonxitas Pop Up for some of the best vegan birria EVER,
I absolutely love The Vegan Playground! This vegan night market has some of the best vendors every week. I love the vegan corn dogs from All Vegan Franks, Vegan Hawaiian Food from Lucky Catsu, and mandatory, you must get pizza from Secret Vegan Pizza and the Mushroom Bao from Maneating Plant.
Vegan Exchange LA Every Sunday
5300 Bakman Ave, North Hollywood, CA 91601
If you want a one-stop destination where you’ll find vegan options of all kinds make your way over to The Vegan Exchange - North Hollywood’s Vegan Street Fair held every Sunday. There are multiple vegan food carts to try from here.
They have rotating food trucks but some highlight vendors I’ve tried are the following:
Xanath and Pacha Taco have vegan birria tacos with consomé to dip it in—both are unique, meaty and worth-trying. Then there’s the Plant based-Lab that serves vegan Japanese food and if you like some spice, you should try the Jarapeño roll that has a bit of a kick to it that’s balanced out nicely with cream cheese.
What’s my top pick here? Word of Mouth plant-based cuisine. They’re known for their burgers and sandwiches so I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich made of oyster mushrooms, also known as, natures ‘dark meat.’ This dish is mouthwatering.
