4 Must Try Places To Eat Vegan Paella in Valencia, Spain

“Where’s the best place to eat paella in Valencia?” The million dollar question every tourist wants to know. Valencia is the hot spot and home to the origin of paella and with so many options in the city, yes, you want to make sure you eat a good one.

BUT if you’re vegan, what options are for you? Fear not friends because I got 3 places for you to try so let’s get into it.

CASA PATACONA $$

Passeig Marítim de la Patacona, 14, 46120 Alboraia, Valencia, Spain

If you’re coming to Valencia you MUST eat paella! It’s their staple dish! Casa Patacona was one of my favorite paella spots not only because they make a flavorful vegetable paella, but also because it’s right on the beach and the ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful! They only have one vegan option and you choose the size of the paella based on your party size since they serve it to you in the large paella pans so 2-3 people is the minimum. Patacona is a cute beachfront and it’s surrounded by other nice cafes and restaurants. You can walk along the beach after your meal.

EL MOSSET DE CABANYAL $

Carrer de Martí Grajales, 7, 46011 València, Spain

Another thing you will notice when visiting Valencia, is the plethora of “take-away” eateries aka, “comida para llevar.” This is an excellent option if traveling on a budget because you can honestly try so much authentic, homestyle food FOR CHEAP because you order by ration! One of my favorite locations is El Mosset de Cabanyal because not only do they make GIANT paella de verduras on a weekly basis but they always have a vast daily vegan menu with other items including chickpeas stew (potage de garbanzos), lentil salads (ensalada de lentejas), fidua (a traditional noodle dish similar to paella), and my favorite, empanadas de setas (mushroom empanadas). You can choose between small 2€, medium 3,50€, or large 5€ servings. Trust me when I say the large is a deal! Also, if you bring your own containers they discount .50€ from each order #sustainable! They are located right across from the Mercado de Cabanyal so you can eat at the benches outside, under the sun and do some shopping at the Market after, OR you can take your food to the beach, as it’s only a 15 min walk away.

RESTAURANTE CANELA $$

Carrer de Quart, 49, 46001 València, Spain

If you ask any non vegan local where to eat good Paella within the city, they will most likely say “Restaurante Canela.” Located in the hip El Carmen neighborhood, Restaurante Canela has a prime location near the Torres de Quart, the old entrance of the city. They serve all types of paella, but they do have a vegan paella, Paella de Verduras. Make sure to make a reservation as this is a popular spot for both tourists and locals. Here you’ll enjoy the ambiance of the location and make sure to roam around this barrio afterward as it’s full of historical architecture mixed with new.

HORTA VIVA

Carrer del Guadalquivir, 6, 46026 València, Valencia, Spain

If you want the traditional family experience of eating as a family or with friends on a Sunday afternoon like all the Valencianos do, then you need to make visit to Horta Viva! Horta Viva is ran by Miquel and he hosts Paella cooking classes! It is only a 10 min drive from the city of Valencia. If you want to learn how to make your own paella. Then this is such a fantastic place to go since you would pick all the product from the garden and chop them up and prepare. See the below video on my experience there!
