24 Hours in Granada
Home to the famous Alhambra, historic Moorish architecture, Arabic culture, and most importantly, amazing food!
There’s so much to see in Granada but, have no fear you can see a great bulk of them in 24 hours and I’m gonna share with you how to do it.
Where to stay
Excellent central location! Just a 1 min walk from the main central city plaza, 12 minutes from Alhambra, and close to so many restaurants, this hotel is so convenient and will make it very efficient for your exploring.
Breakfast
Porras! If you’ve tried churros, porras are similar but just a wider, fluffier version. This is what they mean by churros in Granada. If you walk into la Plaza you will see quite a few options. The churros are naturally vegan since the dough is just made of flour and oil, however, you will have to ask for the chocolate to be made with water instead of milk or ask for none at all to avoid dairy. Also don’t forget to order a cafe con leche de soja or avena (soy or oat) to go with it.
Alhambra
The most famous attraction in Granada. A palace with intricate architecture and city views. Make sure to make reservations at least 1-2 months in advance to ensure you have a spot for viewing as it sells out quickly. I recommend getting the earliest time slot at 8am to be the first group in to take better photos and maximize the most of your day. The later in the afternoon, the more people there are for them to photobomb your shots ;)
Brunch/Lunch
Wild Food World $$
An all-vegan cafe with a classy vibe, this is a cafe you have to visit. Open from 9am to 11:30p you can choose whichever meal you want from here. You can also stay at the cool, eco-friendly hotel connected to the restaurant if you’d prefer that type of vibe.
My favorite dishes I ordered at this restaurant were actually for breakfast, the tofu scramble is amazing and you must have the giant pineapple smoothie served in the actual pineapple. They serve lunch, dinner and dessert as well so you can decide which menu you would like to try best.
Teterias and Shopping
Next, you can make your way to the tea shop (teteria) street found on Calle Calderería Nueva. You will feel like you have been transported to Morocco with the selection of items you can buy and the ambiance of all the tea houses, lamps, and let’s not forget the Arabic pastries! Make sure to have some with your tea. Just ask for the ones without tea or milk if you’re vegan. You will also want to check out The Alcaicería market is the Grand Bazaar of Granada and the original Moorish silk market to do some shopping for spices and decor.
Sunset Views
To see an amazing view of the city at sunset you gotta go to El Mirador de San Nicolas. Here you can see the beautiful sunset with the Alhambra and also see cute white houses all the way up the view.
Dinner
Papas Elvira $
This quaint casual dining spot has a variety of vegan options including the must try, vegan version of a pastela! Pastela’s are a flaky pastry with a savory lentil meat. You can also enjoy other dishes but if you’re more interested in having a mezze make sure to check out the various surrounding Moroccon style restaurants to enjoy hummus, falafel, baba ganoushe and more!
If you would like to see this adventure in action you can see it in the video link below. And If you have some time to spare, you can easily roam around el Centro and Alabacin area to enjoy some drinks or music at a club. Hope you get a chance to visit Granada soon! Adios!
