48 Hours in Barcelona | Vegan Food & City Tour

Short-term travel can be intense, especially when your main attraction is trying to fit as much vegan food as possible! Well friends I’m here to tell you that I’ve done Barcelona in 48 Hours and will list some restaurants you have to try, what attractions to see, and some travel tips.

TRANSPORTATION

Before spending a lot of money on a taxi or Cabify, you can opt for the Aerobus to the city center which only costs about 5,90€ one way, and a bus is available every 5-10 min until late at night. You can buy online or pay at a kiosk just outside of the airport parking lot in Terminal 2.

HOSTEL

So if you want a budget stay, but an AWESOME location, I definitely recommend St. Christopher’s Inn, it’s a giant shared hostel where your bags are locked under your bed or in lockers in the lounge. There is a community room for you to meet people, heat up your food or store in fridges. BUT the best part is the location...It’s in the heart of Plaça Catalunya which means it’s in walking distance to Las Ramblas, the Gothic Quarter and more.

DAY 1

FLAX AND KALE $$

Carrer dels Tallers, 74b, 08001 Barcelona, Spain

Website

For starters, Flax and Kale is one of the first options you'll see on Google when you search vegan food, I couldn't resist so I decided to go and try it out for breakfast because they have such an extensive menu. They list the allergies, it has a really cool vibe. And although they did have a lot of great vegan options, their plant-based bacon and cheese bagel sounded amazing but unfortunately wasn’t. The texture was really weird, however the place is a cool vibe but they do have a lot of other things that I've heard are really good so there’s a reason it has all the good reviews it has. Still worth checking out in my opinion

VEGAN BOWLS $

Carrer dels, Carrer d'Enric Granados, 145, 08008 Barcelona, Spain

Website

Luckily just up the street, in Raval, there's Vegan Bowls that offers food and some specialty lattes as well; but the reason you need to here is for the desserts because if you’re a cookie monster then you will enjoy every single bite of this ooey gooey cookie.

BOQUERIA MARKET

La Rambla, 91, 08001 Barcelona, Spain

Next you check out Boqueria Market because I wanted to see if there were any vegan snacks I could find and there were actually a couple of stands that had vegan empanadas that you could choose from. Besides that you can always get your olives, fresh fruit, fresh juices, paletas and of course fresh bread.

SAGRADA FAMILIA

Carrer de Mallorca, 401, 08013 Barcelona, Spain

The Basilica Sagrada Famila is a large unfinished Roman Catholic minor basilica in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Designed by Spanish/Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. Make sure to book a reservation in advance as this place gets packed pretty quickly.

ROOTS AND ROLLS

C. del Consell de Cent, 401, bajos, 08009 derecha, Barcelona, Spain

Website

About 15 minutes after Sagrada Familia you'll find Roots & Rolls which will give you a vegan sushi experience you have to try! Roots & Rolls specializes in vegan sushi rolls, and vegan Asian fusion. They have everything from starters to entrees. You need to come here with a group of friends because not only will you want to try EVERYTHING but the location and ambiance is just beautiful but also affordable, so they've done a really good job with the space. Some of the most popular items on their menu are the gyozas filled with tofu, bang bang broccoli, popcorn cauliflower, and of course SUSHI! The sushi here is on another level! There's no reason vegan food can't be creative, hearty, healthy and stylish, and that is exactly what they've done here. They have a nigiri sushi made with a tomato that looks so much like tuna! Then there's also  the ‘Srirango’ roll which has avocado on top, bell pepper, cucumber and a spicy aioli and my personal favorite was the ‘Jumping Jack’. On top is some jackfruit and inside there's heura meat, a very popular veggie meat that's made its way across Spain. That BBQ jackfruit on top of the “Jumping Jack” gives it an extra kick, flair. The mission of this restaurant is not to convert people to become vegan, it's more of like, "hey guess what? We have delicious, vegan food come enjoy with your friends!

MIRADOR TURO DE LA ROVIRA

Afterward to walk off your feast, you can take the metro to the Alfonso X stop to walk up the popular view point, called Turo del la Rovira. What used to be bunkers during the Civil War, are now enjoyed by tourists and locals, the view is amazing and  worth the walk especially during sunset hours. I definitely enjoyed it.

LAS RAMBLAS

In the evening it’s so worth it to walk through the popular Las Ramblas street, a large boulevard which runs through the heart of the city centre. Filled with Barcelona action, tons of restaurants and life it’s definitely a must visit even just for people watching, but I made this stop to make my way to Chok bakery, an all vegan donut shop.

CHOK BAKERY

Carrer del Carme, 3, 08001 Barcelona, Spain

Website

Chok Bakery specializes in 100% vegan pastries like donuts, cookies and cakes. And some of these donuts are crazy! Like the chocolate stuffed nutella donut. They are made daily, use natural ingredients, are low sugar and have gluten-free options!

DAY 2

Equilibrium Cafe

Carrer de València, 352, 08009 Barcelona, Spain

Website

For the second day you can make your way over to Equilibrium Cafe in L'Eixample and they serve up some delicious breakfast. You can start your morning with the 'kick starter' juice made of orange, ginger, tumeric and carrot; the chickpea omelette with loads of delicious vegan cream cheese and of course end with the vegan chocolate croissant which was so flaky you would be surprised!

The cool thing about vegan chickpea omelettes is that it's super filling with a lot of fiber and protein with no bad fat or cholesterol.

GALLO SANTO

Carrer del Torrent de l'Olla, 64, 08012 Barcelona, Spain

Website

Alright now, Gallo Santo is a place you should be very excited for because although Mexican food is popular in Barcelona there's not very many vegan or vegetarian Mexican restaurants but this spot has you covered! As soon as you sit down, each table has a plate of salsitas and limon. If you like spicy, you’ll get that here for sure, which is rare in Spain and everything here is homemade.

Make sure to start with the coconut ceviche with young coconut meat, which has the most amazing juice called “leche de tigre” that will have you slurping out of the bowl!  Next are the tacos! They have tinga, yaca pibil (jackfruit),  mushroom tacos and even ‘al pastor’. Overall, make this a stop on your list so

Go vegan guey!

WILD LULITA

Carrer de l'Or, 6, 08012 Barcelona, Spain

Website

So not far from Gallo Santo is a vegan pastry shop that has raw vegan desserts so of course that's where you gotta check out next! You guys, when you walk in here the vibe is just so cute and beautifully decorated with flowers, they have a little fruteria inside, and you can buy products that promote feminism etc.

But more important is the dessert. You can try things like the 'limón amor' . It's a vegan lemon cheesecake. made with buckwheat, oats, raisins, cacao dates. And you can also get the famous ‘golden snickers’ with vegan date caramel, chocolate and dusted with golden flakes.

DEMASIÉ

Carrer de la Princesa, 28, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

If you’re still in the mood for dessert and down to check out another neighborhood you need to head to Demasié, where you will find two epic kinds of vegan cinnamon rolls! Choose from classic plain or their vegan nutella version! P.S. Very important tip: you gotta warm it up so the frosting is ooey gooey

BARCELONETA

Next to walk off all the food you can walk along Bareloneta. This is the seaside neighborhood where the locals of La Barceloneta can walk along the waterfront, or surf and sunbathe on Sant Sebastià Beach.

TERESA CARLES

Carrer de Jovellanos, 2, 08001 Barcelona, Spain

Website

Lastly, to end the night popular restaurant here in Barcelona because they serve up some traditional spanish dishes but vegan! They have a selection of vegan croquetas, the 'Bomba Barceloneta' which is like patatas bravas but it’s a giant potato ball  filled with mushrooms. Teresa Carles is the sister restaurant to Flax and Kale that was mentioned earlier. This is the original restaurant and then Flax and Kale branched off out of it. They have a variety of menu items like entrees and dessert but if you're looking for just a place 'para picar,' little bites here and there, this is a good place to start or dine.
